Moldova, Turkmenistan to sign several agreements

Chisinau hosted political consultations between Turkmenistan and Moldova as a part of preparations for Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's official visit to Moldova, scheduled for the second half of July 2013.

The Moldovan Foreign Ministry reported that at the talks, the Moldovan delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Popov, while the Turkmen delegation was lead by his counterpart Berdyniyaz Myatiyev.

The sides discussed prospects of cooperation in trade-economic, energy and humanitarian spheres.

The sides also stressed the importance of strengthening and complementing bilateral legal framework. In this regard, a decision was made to rapidly sign relevant agreements to avoid double taxation and prevent income and property tax evasion.

Ashgabat and Chisinau are also examining the possibility of cooperation in energy.

Turkmenistan is a key player in the Caspian and Central Asian gas establishment. At present, China, Iran and Russia are consumers of Turkmen natural gas. Turkmenistan ranks fourth on natural gas reserves in the world and is looking for new sales markets in Europe and South Asia.
