Georgia should further integrate into Europe – President
By Nazrin Gadimova
Georgia must continue integrating into Europe, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said after a working session of the summit of the Eastern Partnership leaders in Moldova on July 12.
Addressing the event, Saakashvili focused on the European future of Georgia and Moldova, the reforms, which were carried out in Georgia, and difficulties the country faced after the October parliamentary elections, the Georgian presidential administration reported.
"Georgia has faced some difficulties since 2012. I hope that these difficulties are temporary and will not continue for a long time. It is unfortunate that we are now talking about the problems more than before," he said.
The president also drew parallels between the political processes in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova and also paid attention to the risks that separate Georgia from European values.
"We are learning from the past. So, let's encourage young people and never go back," he concluded.
The summit of the Eastern Partnership leaders opened in Chishinau on July 12. President Saakashvili, his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan, Chairman of the European People's Party Wilfried Martens, Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and the leaders of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova attend the event.
