Ukraine approves military and technical agreement with Turkmenistan

Ukrainian government approved an intergovernmental agreement with Turkmenistan on the implementation of a programme of military and technical cooperation of the two countries for 2013-2014, Kyiv Post online publication reported.

The Majlis (parliament) of Turkmenistan ratified this agreement in May. As previously reported on the website of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, the agreement, which was signed at the end of January, will allow expanding cooperation in modernisation of weapons and military equipment for Turkmenistan, along with the development of repair base for aircrafts and naval forces as well as the procurement of military goods.

Another package of intergovernmental agreements was signed in February within the framework of the state visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to Turkmenistan.

The list of the signed documents includes a memorandum of understanding between the National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine and Turkmengaz State Concern and a programme of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries for 2013, as well as a memorandum of understanding between the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan on cooperation in the sphere of counteraction against legalisation (money laundering) of criminally obtained income, terrorist financing and other matters.
