Election results for Turkmen parliament's vacant seats announced
The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan has announced the final results of the elections of deputies of the Turkmen Mejlis (Parliament) to replace retired parliamentarians.
"The elections were held on the principles of transparency and openness," the commission said.
According to the statement, the June 2 elections were attended by about 94,000 people which accounted for over 81 per cent of the total number of registered voters.
The election was declared valid at all 109 polling stations.
The mandate of the people's trust in each constituency was claimed by two or more candidates including representatives of government agencies and leading experts of various sectors of the national economy.
The term of office of the Mejlis deputies is five years. The main current composition was elected in December 2008.
