Turkmen textile industry's turnover approaches $400 million

The annual turnover of Turkmen textile industry amounted to $380 million, according to the Textile Industry Ministry of Turkmenistan.

According to the report, the textile industry of Turkmenistan is represented by 74 companies - 32 textile complexes, cotton spinning and weaving factories, 17 garment factories, seven enterprises of silk industry, two enterprises for processing of wool and three for the production of knitwear and other garmets.

Dozens of textile companies totaling over $1.6 billion in value have been built since independence, which allowed for the increase in the amount of processing locally produced cotton to reach 51 percent.

All enterprises are equipped with technology from European countries and Japan with a complete production cycle - from the processing of cotton fiber to production of finished products. The installed equipment is produced by such companies as Rieter (Switzerland), Trutzschler, Schlafhorst, Zinser, Terrot (Germany), Muratec, Tsudakoma, (Japan), Marzoli, Somet, Vamatex, (Italy), Picanol (Belgium).

70-80 percent of the country's production is exported to the United States, Canada, Germany, Britain, Russia, Italy, Turkey, China, Ukraine.

Among the major buyers and customers of finished products are such companies as Ikea, Puma, Bershka, Nautika, Sara Lee, Casual Wear, Wal-Mart, Miss Erica, Vespolino, JC Penney and others.

Production capacities allow producing up to 177,000 tons of yarns of different types, 186 million square meters of various fabrics of cotton, 11,000 tons of various kinds of knitted fabric, 7.2 million tons of terry fabrics and 80 million units of knitwear and garments annually.
