Kyrgyz Deputy PM retires

Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister for security, law and order Shamil Atakhanov retired at his own request, RIA Novosti news agency reported on June 6.

He explained his decision as he is not willing to work alone without a team of like-minded people.

He was on his post during a period less than a year.

At the end of May, Atakhanov was sent to Dzheti-Ogur district of Kyrgyzstan by the country's Prime Minister Zhantoro Satybaldiyev, where the local people were protesting against an agreement on Kumtor mine exploration.

There is no information whether the retirement request was accepted by the country's President Almazbek Atambayev.
