'In accordance with existing legislation the election was declared valid', the report says.

The pre-term elections were brought about by the appointment of several representatives of the national parliament to positions of responsibility, so that is why they left the deputies corps.

In each constituency two or more candidates were claiming a mandate of the people's trust, among which there were the representatives of government institutions and leading specialists of different spheres of the national economy.

At a set time, 109 electoral districts were opened simultaneously for voting. 15 were in Ashgabad, 34 in Akhal velayat, 44 in Lebap velayat and 16 in Mary velayat. 94,000 voters participated in the elections and the turnout was 81 per cent.

According to the assessments of national observers, the parliamentary elections 'were held on an alternative and democratic basis and were marked with a high interest of the population'.
