CSTO states concerned over possible conflict between West and Iran
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states consider a military solution as being unacceptable to the issue of Iran's nuclear programme, a joint statement of the Foreign Ministers of the CSTO countries on the results of the last meeting held on May 27 says, KyrTAG wrote.
"The CSTO expresses its concern about the growing tensions around Iran, considering a military solution to the problem as being unacceptable. Developments on the confrontational scenario against the backdrop of general instability in the Middle East and North Africa is fraught with unpredictable consequences for the international community," the statement says.
Therefore the CSTO member states stand for of the most responsible and restrained approach in solving the Iranian nuclear issue, noting the right of each state to develop peaceful nuclear energy under the control of the relevant international organisations (IAEA).
The U.S. and some European countries have criticised Iran for its nuclear programme accusing it of creating nuclear weapons. At the initiative of these states the UN and other international organisations imposed a variety of sanctions on Iran. Calls for a military solution to the Iranian issue are being sounded in U.S. political circles.
