Decline in Georgia’s foreign trade caused by lower imports - official

Decline in the foreign trade turnover of Georgia in January-March is due to lower imports, the country's Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri told reporters on Friday, commenting on the 5-percent decline in Georgia's foreign trade turnover.

"During the reporting period, exports grew by five per cent, while imports declined. The decline in imports affected the reduction of total trade turnover," Khaduri said.

He said the decline in imports is due to the fact that products imported from abroad are being replaced by domestic ones.

Speaking about the increase in Georgian exports, Khaduri said exports of tangerines increased by 600 percent in January and February.
