British Airways to quit Georgian flights
By Sabina Idayatova
British Airways has announced it is wrapping up operations in Georgia. The airline said Tuesday it will operate its last Tbilisi-London flight on March 29.
The company, which returned to Georgia after a hiatus in 2012, explained its decision by commercial reasons, saying Tbilisi-London and London-Tbilisi flights are unprofitable.
A while ago, British Airways decided to stop its flights to the Armenian capital Yerevan from October, the London office of the company told Radio Liberty's Armenian service in August 2012.
We recall that the jets of British Airways have not been flying to Armenia in recent years. Planes of BMI company were making flights to Yerevan instead. However, after BMI was sold to British Airways, the latter decided that flights to Yerevan are not profitable.
In July 2012, British Airways announced its official return to Azerbaijan, saying that the company is actively integrating BMI company into its business structure and the Baku-London flights will be included in the British Airways route network from the winter of 2012. Flights to the Azerbaijani capital Baku are carried out seven times a week on board A321 Airbus planes.
British Airways' history of flights to Azerbaijan covers over six years from 1995. Customers flying between Baku and London enjoy high quality service of the company.
