Iran thanks Turkey for help in releasing Iranians in Syria

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi had a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said, Trend news agency reported.

Salehi thanked Davutoglu for Turkey's help in releasing 48 Iranian citizens detained earlier by the opposition in Syria.

Syria's opposition has recently released 48 Iranian citizens, detained earlier in Syria, with the help of Turkey and Qatar.

Syrian authorities released 2,100 civilian prisoners detained during the demonstrations in the country in exchange for Iranian citizens.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for more than a year and a half. According to the UN Human Rights Commissioner, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 60,000. More than 230,000 have become refugees and there are around three million people in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
