Georgian crime boss arrested in Kyrgyzstan
An alleged Georgian crime boss is under arrest for using a forged Kyrgyz passport after being deported to Bishkek, Radio Liberty reported.
Kyrgyz Interior Ministry officials said on November 19 that Ilya Samsonia was sent by Russian authorities to Kyrgyzstan on November 16 in the belief he was a Kyrgyz citizen.
Last week, Samsonia finished serving a three-year prison term in Russia's northwestern region of Arkhangelsk.
Samsonia is a well-known crime figure from Georgia but apparently wasn't recognized by the Russian authorities.
He was jailed on drug-related charges in 2009 and served his prison term in Russia as a Kyrgyz citizen.
His documents gave his name as Ilyas Aliev.
The Kyrgyz Interior Ministry said Samsonia's Kyrgyz passport was forged and an investigation had been launched.
