Ukraine opposition protests election fraud, threatens to boycott parliament

Ukraine's opposition parties are holding a rally in Kyiv to protest alleged rigging of the results from last month's parliamentary election, Radio Liberty reported.

More than a thousand opposition supporters demonstrated on November 5 in front of the Central Election Commission headquarters.

Opposition parties, including the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party of jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and the Udar (Punch) party of former world boxing champion Vitali Klitschko, are threatening to boycott the newly elected parliament.

With nearly all the votes counted, President Viktor Yanukovych's ruling Party of Regions and its allies appear to have retained a majority of more than 225 seats in the 450-seat parliament.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe called the election a step backward in Ukraine's democracy.
