One dead in Ukraine mine blast
A miner was killed in a Donetsk Region coal mine early Monday in a sudden blast of gas and coal, according to the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry's press service, RIA Novosti reported.
The blast occurred at the Zasyadko mine in the city of Donetsk, the regional capital.
The press service added that the body was recovered from under the debris.
The mine is continuing its operation, excluding the zone where the explosion took place. The incident is currently under investigation.
The Zasyadko mine has a history of disaster and has sparked a heated debate over mine safety in Ukraine.
In 2007, a methane explosion at the mine killed 101 workers and became the worst mine tragedy in Ukraine's history.
