Brahimi in Moscow for talks on Syrian crisis

The international envoy on Syria Lakhdar Brahimi holds talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow later today, Radio Liberty reported.

Russia and China have vetoed UN Security Council resolutions demanding tougher action against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the bloody government crackdown of opponents of his regime.

Moscow and Beijing accuse the West of being biased toward the rebels.

The talks come on the last day of a four-day truce in Syria, which has been marred by numerous violations by both government troops and rebels.

Brahimi brokered the cease-fire with hopes of building trust between the two sides to end the 19-month-old crisis which has claimed tens of thousands of lives.

However, the violence has continued.

Activists said at least 110 people were killed on October 28, a toll similar to previous daily casualty tolls.

They include 16 who died in an airstrike on the village of al-Barra in northern Syria's mountainous Jabal al-Zawiya region.

Syrian warplanes also struck three eastern Damascus suburbs to try to drive out rebels.
