Iran asks Syria and Turkey to take steps to reduce tension
Iran is monitoring the situation that has developed between Turkey and Syria, and asked high-ranking officials of the two countries to take steps to reduce tension, Spokesman for Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ramin Mehmanparast said at a news conference in Astana on Thursday.
He said tension and destabilization in the region is unprofitable for the sides.
"We have good relations with Turkey, and within exchange of delegations, as well as during telephone conversations with senior officials, both sides were offered to come to an agreement, to understand the origins of the situation and take steps to prevent the deepening tension," Mehmanparast said.
Relations between Turkey and Syria worsened after the incident at the border on Oct.3, when Syria artillery killed five people and injured 11 in the territory of the Turkish district Akcakale.
Turkish parliament approved issuing a mandate for cross-border military operations against Syria in response to the shelling of the Syrian army.
