UN says Ban will not visit nuclear site in Iran
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has no plans to visit the Natanz nuclear plant in Iran while he attends the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran this week, a UN spokesman said Monday in New York, DPA reported.
"There is no such plans for a visit of this kind by the secretary general while he is in Iran for the summit," said Martin Nesirky in reaction to a report by Tehran's Fars news agency. "If the Iranian authorities prepare to give access to others, not least of course to those from the International Atomic Energy Agency, that would be welcome."
Nesirky said it would be up to the IAEA to decide "with regard to the access it may already have to the location."
Ban will be in Tehran Wednesday through Friday to attend the summit and hold talks with Iran's leaders at the highest levels, including the country's Supreme Leader, Nesirky said.
