Top Tajik KGB officer murdered
Officials in Tajikistan say an investigation has been launched into the murder of a top officer of the State Committee for National Security.
General Abdullo Nazarov, 56, was reportedly stabbed to death on July 21 while visiting the autonomous region of Badakhshan in Tajikistan`s south.
Officials of the Prosecutor-General`s Office said the probe is focusing on indications that the murder was connected to the illegal tobacco business in the region bordering China and Afghanistan.
Officials said that investigators from the Interior Ministry, the military prosecutor`s office, and the State Committee for National Security have arrived in Badakhshan to investigate the attack.
Units of Tajik special security forces have also reportedly been sent to the region.
