Kyrgyz PM sacks airport customs, border and police officials
Kyrgyzstan's Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov has decided to sack all customs officials, border guards and police at the country’s two international airports, in what's being described as a bid to curb corruption, Radio Liberty reported.
Under the order, these officials -- at the airport in Bishkek, the capital, and another in the southern city of Osh -- are to be fired within 10 days.
The Kyrgyz government’s press service said Babanov made the decision in an effort to "curb corruption at the airports."
Babanov announced at a cabinet meeting on February 27 that newly hired replacement personnel at the airports should be fired within one month if corruption in the airports persists.
