Moldova admits arms sales to Armenia – report
Moldova has sold weaponry and military machinery to Armenia, Defense Minister Vitaly Marinutse admitted during closed-door hearings in parliament, Russian Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper reported.
He was commenting on the issue regarding a Libyan plane flying from Benghazi to Moldova's capital Chisinau and further carrying weapons in an unknown direction.
Moldovan Defense Ministry spokesman Alexander Zhosani said artillery and anti-tank weapons are implied, but he did not disclose the amount of the exported arms.
Analysts say Moldova bewares that the disclosure of details about the arms sale could spark ire in Azerbaijan, which faces a two-decade-long conflict with neighboring Armenia over its occupied Nagorno Karabakh region.
