Subway fare to be doubled in Yerevan

YEREVAN – Subway fare will be doubled in the Armenian capital Yerevan from July to 100 drams (about 30 cents), Mayor Karen Karapetyan was quoted by Armenia Today news agency as saying.

He said the cost of transportation per passenger is even higher - 160 drams.

"The current fee was being covered by subsidies, which the mayor’s office can no longer pay and sees no need for," Karapetyan said.

The Yerevan subway transports about 20 million passengers per year, meeting 5-6 percent of public transport needs in the city.
