Russia may ease vegetable exports ban – watchdog

MOSCOW – Russia will be ready to ease its ban on imports of some vegetables from the European Union when it receives safety guarantees and the results of tests, the Russian consumer protection watchdog said on Friday, Reuters reported.

"The European Commission has proposed working not at the national level, as is done now, but at the level of the Commission when guarantees are provided for certain countries and certain products," Gennady Onishchenko, head of the Rospotrebnadzor agency, told reporters.

"When we receive guarantees, including laboratory tests, we will resume (imports)," he said during an EU-Russia summit in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod.
