BISHKEK – Turkish lawyers have arrived in Bishkek to defend a Turkish man arrested in Kyrgyzstan at Ankara's behest on charges of links to terrorist groups, Radio Liberty reported.

Turkish journalist Ali Osman Zor, 43, was detained by Kyrgyz police on May 2. He is wanted by Turkish officials for his alleged involvement in a terrorist group connected with Al-Qaeda that wants to create an Islamic caliphate in the Middle East.

Sabyr Mambetov, spokesman for the Bishkek-based organization Taza Din (Pure Religion), told Radio Liberty on Thursday that lawyers Guben Yilmaz and Ahmed Arslan have arrived in Bishkek and officially filed a request to free Zor on bail.

Khurnisa Makhadinova, deputy chairwoman of the Adilet (Justice) Human Rights Center in Bishkek, told Radio Liberty last week that Zor arrived in Kyrgyzstan about nine months ago and applied for political asylum.
