Turkish group: No Armenians killed in Ottoman Empire on April 24

ANKARA – A Turkish group has said that "not a single Armenian" was killed in the Ottoman Empire on April 24, the date marked by Armenians as the anniversary of the alleged mass killings in 1915.

"Simply the leaders of Dashnak and Hinchak parties were arrested because of their illegal activity," said Goksel Gulbey, head of Turkish Organization for Fighting against Baseless Armenian Allegations (ASIMDER).

Gulbey, who is on a visit to Baku, said that the archives prove this fact. "Those persons were only arrested. The Armenians’ alleged ouster didn’t occur at that time either."

According to historians, from 1915 to 1923, Armenians had begun an uprising. They took up arms against Turkey and assisted Russia, one of Turkey’s enemies in WWI. To counter these actions, the Ottoman Empire decided to resettle the Armenians. However, the latter claim that their predecessors were subjected to genocide in the process.

The ASIMDER chairman will sign agreements on cooperation with several Azerbaijani non-governmental organizations during the visit. Gulbey said his organization was trying to join effort with Azerbaijan "in the fight against Armenian lies".
