Lithuanian, Russian FMs discuss conflicts in OSCE region

BRUSSELS – The Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation on joint efforts to resume official negotiations on Transnistrian conflict settlement in the "5+2" format and expressed belief that they would take place as soon as possible.

The "5+2" format comprises the two sides – Moldova and Transnistria – and the mediators: Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE, as well as the United States and the European Union as observers, Lithuanian Foreign Ministry reported.

Minister Azubalis appreciated activities of co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, as mediators of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and stressed the importance to build on the positive momentum of the March 5 Sochi summit, which brought together the presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia.

The ministers also discussed the Community Security Initiative in Kyrgyzstan and the OSCE Secretary General elections.
