Kazakh leader proposes early presidential vote
ASTANA – Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev called on Monday for an early presidential election, without naming a date, Reuters reported.
Nazarbayev, speaking live on state television, also said he would not hold a referendum to prolong his rule unopposed until 2020, supporting a decision taken earlier on Monday by the Constitutional Council.
The next presidential election is scheduled in 2012.
