EU, Georgia ease visa requirements

TBILISI – The European Council (EC) formally approved a visa facilitation and readmission agreement with Georgia on Tuesday, an EC spokesman said, RIA Novosti reported.

The visa facilitation agreement was signed by the two sides in June 2010. It aims to make travel to EU countries easier for Georgian citizens, particularly frequent travelers.

The agreement reduces the visa fee from 60 to 35 euros for all Georgian citizens and waives the visa fee for certain categories of applicants (children, pensioners, disabled persons, and students).

Frequent travelers will be issued long-lasting multi-entry visas.

The readmission agreement sets out obligations and procedures for the authorities of both Georgia and EU member states on when and how they repatriate people who are illegally residing on their territories.
