Turkmenistan appoints new special rep on Caspian Sea
ASHGABAT – Turkmenistan’s President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov has signed an order to appoint Myrat Atadjanov as the chairman of the Turkmen Presidential Enterprise for Caspian Sea Affairs.
Atadjanov replaced Toyly Komekov, who was dismissed after being re-assigned to another position.
Earlier, Berdimuhammedov reprimanded Komekov "for unsatisfactory performance."
Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran border the Caspian, which is rich in hydrocarbons and bioresources. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it has become necessary to adopt a new agreement on the legal status of the basin. The five Caspian states have agreed that the agreement may be adopted by consensus.
