Ukraine`s former PM charged with abuse of office

KYIV – Ukraine's Prosecutor-General's Office says former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has been charged with abuse of power while in office, Radio Liberty reported.

Tymoshenko told reporters on leaving the prosecutor's office that she has been ordered to stay in the capital, Kyiv, during the investigation, which is linked to the alleged misuse of state funds.

Tymoshenko said she had used money earmarked in the state budget for environmental spending to cover Ukraine's massive pension arrears.

The investigation represents the most serious legal trouble for Tymoshenko since she was forced out of her post after the victory of pro-Moscow Viktor Yanukovych in a presidential election earlier this year.
