TEHRAN – Sajjad Ghaderzade - son of the Iranian woman Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani who has been sentenced to stoning for adultery - and his lawyer Javid Hutan Kian, "have been released," unnamed sources at the International Commission Against Stoning, told Adnkronos International (AKI) on Thursday. The sources did not immediately provide any further information.
The men were arrested in October together with two German journalists who were interviewing them. Prior to his arrest, Ghaderzade and his sister Sahideh Ghaderzade in an interview with AKI in October asked Italy for political asylum after feeling threatened by security authorities at home.
Mohammadi Ashtiani was earlier this year was sentenced to death for adultery and helping murder her husband. After an international outcry, her stoning sentence was suspended, but there are fears she may still be executed by hanging.
