CIS leaders to discuss military co-op paper
MOSCOW – A draft concept on CIS military cooperation running up until 2015 will be discussed at a meeting of the Council of CIS Member Countries in Moscow on Friday.
The draft's nine sections contain provisions that constitute a system of coordinated views to develop military cooperation on a multilateral basis, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told Ukrinform in Russia.
"The main purpose is to expand military cooperation by developing a partnership in areas of mutual interest to strengthen national and joint security," he said.
Moreover, CIS presidents will consider an action plan on implementing a coordinated border policy concept covering 2011-2015. The document contains six sections and includes activities in the information, scientific, human and financial maintenance fields.
Nearly 20 drafts will be considered at the meeting. "They aim to enhance the integration processes in the economic, humanitarian and security fields," Lebedev said.
