Festival of Azeri films disrupted in Armenia
YEREVAN – The festival of Azerbaijani films in Yerevan planned on Friday has been disrupted.
Festival organizer, chairman of the Caucasus center of peacekeeping initiatives Georgiy Vanyan, told Radio Liberty that the hall owner rejected to present it for demonstration of films at the last moment.
The planned event caused the great wave of protest in social networks. Some of the Armenian users of social networks criticized this festival.
Earlier Georgiy Vanyan said that films made in Azerbaijan in 2007-2008 bear no attitude to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
The festival was planned to be held under the subtitle "Stop". "The real meaning is stop. This is the appeal to stop, to stop political speculations and false patriotism", Vanyan told Radio Liberty adding that the attempt to hold the festival of Azerbaijani films in Armenia is taken for the first time.
"In conditions of total propaganda, we are trying to frustrate it and create an area for free expression for the citizens of Armenia. Azerbaijani films which we included into the program of the festival, are not the films made by the program of the dialogue, these are real films, created in real today’s Azerbaijan. We… are trying to present real Azerbaijan to our audience", the festival organizer said.
He said the contest program of the festival includes four short films (first a documentary and three feature films) and a full feature film in the off-contest program. "By demonstrating these films, we are trying to start the public dialogue inside Armenia", Vanyan said.
