Georgia is sure to join NATO: NATO official
BRUSSELS – The chairman of NATO's Military Committee, Giampaolo di Paola, has praised military reforms in Georgia and expressed confidence that Georgia would join NATO, Interfax reported.
Di Paola, who arrived in Tbilisi on Thursday for a two-day visit, told reporters after meeting with Georgian Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaya that Georgia's defense capability is growing and that the country is building up its ties with the North Atlantic alliance.
Di Paola said NATO and Georgia would keep working on Georgian reforms.
He credited Georgia with making a serious contribution to international security by taking part in NATO's military operation in Afghanistan and deplored the deaths of Georgian soldiers in that country.
The program for De Paola's visit includes meeting with parliament chairman David Bakradze, seeing the military training center in Krtsanisi and familiarizing himself with the activities of NATO's communication office in Georgia.
