Turkmenistan calls for UN-brokered talks with Caspian states
ASHGABAT – Turkmenistan has called for arranging high-level political consultations between Central Asian and Caspian littoral states under the auspices of the United Nations.
The initiative was put forward by Turkmen ambassador to the UN Aksoltan Atayeva at a committee of the UN General Assembly.
Ashgabat suggested that a permanent platform be created for political dialog on the issue of disarmament in the Central Asia and Caspian regions.
Atayeva suggested as a format for such joint efforts establishing a high-level forum on security, peace and cooperation. She said forums could be held alternately in each of the regional countries, adding that Ashgabat was ready to host the first such event.
