Another US congressman backs Armenian ‘genocide’ bill

YEREVAN – A US congressman has supported a bill claiming that Armenians were subjected to "genocide" by Ottoman Turks in 1915, Armеniа Тoday news agency reported.

Democratic Congressman Ron Klein said the United States "should set an example to everyone", claiming it should condemn "genocide" regardless of where it occurred.

"I look forward to joining the Armenian American community and all Americans who oppose useless violence and genocide," Klein said.

Klein is the 144th congressman who supported the resolution on the alleged genocide passed by the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee in March.

Armenians residing in Turkey’s Anatolia region staged riots during World War I and fought against the Ottoman army in support of Russia. In an effort to end stand-off, the Ottoman government decided in 1915 to resettle the Armenians to other parts of the country. Armenians say 1.5 million of their ancestors were killed in the process, a claim strenuously dismissed by Turkey, and have been trying to muster international support for their claims worldwide.
