The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has announced that Ukrainian forces carried out strikes on an oil products plant in Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov region, and a fuel and lubricants depot in Russia’s Voronezh region, Azernews reports.

According to the statement, Ukrainian forces also targeted a logistics base and a drone storage site belonging to the Russian army in Donetsk.

The General Staff noted that multiple explosions were reported following the strikes.

The Russia–Ukraine war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022, remains one of the most consequential conflicts of the 21st century. It has reshaped Europe’s security architecture, tested international law, and triggered profound geopolitical, economic, and humanitarian consequences.

The roots of the war go back to 2014, when Russia illegally annexed Crimea following Ukraine’s Euromaidan revolution and the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych. That same year, Moscow began backing separatist movements in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions, sparking an armed conflict that simmered for years.

Despite diplomatic efforts under the Minsk agreements, fighting never ceased. Tensions escalated dramatically in late 2021, when Russia massed over 150,000 troops near Ukraine’s borders. On 24 February 2022, President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation,” launching a full-scale invasion targeting Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other cities.
