Turkish army chief’s ‘pro-Azeri stance’ unsettles Armenians (UPDATED)

YEREVAN – Armenians have become utterly concerned over what they believe is the pro-Azerbaijan stance of the newly appointed Turkish Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff, Gen. Isik Kosaner.

Armenia’s News.am news agency has published a report headlined "a pro-Azerbaijan general has been appointed Turkish army chief". The report said that Kosaner, who is due to embark on his duties on August 30, is widely known as a person supporting Azerbaijan.

News.am maintained that Kosaner is spearheading efforts to strengthen Azerbaijan’s armed forces and that he is providing the greatest support for the training of Azerbaijani servicemen in Turkey.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades. Armenia has been occupying over 20% of Azerbaijan’s territory since the end of warfare in the early 1990s.
