Armenia’s failing to return killed soldier to be raised at OSCE PA
Azerbaijan will raise the issue of Armenia’s failing to repatriate
the body of the solider recently killed on the frontline after a
ceasefire violation at a meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary
Assembly, due on Sunday in Oslo, Azerbaijani Parliament
Vice-Speaker Bahar Muradova said Friday.
"We will suggest that the OSCE step up its mediating efforts in the process of repatriating the Azerbaijani soldier who perished," Muradova told a news conference.
Azerbaijani and Armenian armed forces clashed June 19 night in Azerbaijan's occupied region of Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh. Five troops were reported killed in the fighting. Four Armenian soldiers had been killed, while one Azerbaijani soldier was later found dead in a neutral zone.
Armenia and Azerbaijan waged a war over the mountainous region of Upper Garabagh in the early 1990s, which claimed some 30,000 lives and displaced about one million Azerbaijanis. Armenia has been occupying over 20% of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory since then. The ceasefire accord was signed in 1994, but peace talks, mediated by the U.S., Russia and France through the OSCE Minsk Group, have been fruitless so far, and sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.*
