Representatives of the Turkey-based Organization for Struggling Against Baseless Armenian Allegations (ASIM-DER) will march toward a checkpoint located on the border with Armenia on May 6 to condemn the recent anti-Turkey protests in Yerevan and Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territory.
According to Goksel Gulbey, the ASIM-DER president, the goal of the protest is to condemn the burning of the Turkish flag during protests in Yerevan on April 24 and state that the border with Armenia will not reopen until Azerbaijan’s occupied Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh region is liberated.
Turkey, Azerbaijan’s ally, and Armenia signed protocols to establish diplomatic relations and reopen their borders in Zurich in late 2009, after decades of hostility, caused by the Armenian policy of occupation and claims on 1915 "genocide". But Turkish officials have assured Baku that the protocols will not pass in the country’s parliament until progress is made in resolving the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.
The protesters will walk 10 km holding the Azerbaijani and Turkish flags, chanting slogans like "Let the hands reaching for the flag break off!", "Garabagh is ours, it will be ours" and "Murderer Sarkisian must pay a bill for Khojaly".*
