Armenian journalist faces brutal attack
A correspondent of an Armenian publication has faced police brutality while at work, reports say.
Gagik Shamsyan, an employee of the Aravot newspaper, was attacked by a man wearing civilian clothes while taking pictures outside the Prosecutor-General’s Office. The individual, who was insulting the journalist, landed many punches on his head and body.
Shamsyan succeeded in photographing the attacker and then submitted the image to law enforcement. Prosecutors have established that the assailant was an employee of the Interior Ministry’s investigation department, but no action has been taken to hold the culprit accountable.*
