The Armenian opposition could head to the February 19 presidential election with a single candidate. Two of the key nominees in the election race – ex-speaker, Orinats Yerkir party leader Artur Bagdasarian and former president Levon Ter-Petrosian could join effort at the polls.
Bagdasarian admitted the possibility, saying he and the Heritage party chairman Raffi Ovanissian could back Ter-Petrosian. "As to who will support who, this will be clear upon completion of discussions," he added.
Bagdasarian said the rally he planned to hold downtown Yerevan was life-threatening as he had received death threats from unidentified individuals. "If something happens to me, my supporters will disclose the names of the perpetrators, while the responsibility for this will rest with the authorities."
Ex-president Ter-Petrosian has also said in a meeting with his voters that Bagdasarian and Ovanisian could join his camp.
"I have substantial information suggesting that they will join us. I have no doubt that all people of conscience want to come together to get rid of this gang-like regime," he said.*
