Armenian opposition activists face cruel attack
Members of Armenia’s main opposition bloc have been
brutally beaten in the capital Yerevan, local reports say.
About 30 people armed with knuckles and metal batons attacked six members of the Armenian National Congress. Two of the opposition representatives were hospitalized with severe injuries.
The assault came as they were handing out to the public promotional materials of Nikol Pashinyan, the editor of Aykakan Jamanak newspaper, who is running for office in the country’s parliamentary election re-run and is said to be a political prisoner. The assailants demanded stopping the campaign supporting the opposition journalist.
The Congress has labeled the attack as a crime of the incumbent regime.*
