Two officials fought in Armenian parliament: report
Tensions were high in the Armenian parliament at a
recent session, with Vice-Speaker Samvel Nikonyan clashing with
Health Minister Arutyun Kushkyan.
The brawl between the two officials began immediately after the parliamentary session. The local Aykakan Jamanak newspaper reported that Nikonyan’s strongly-worded criticism of the country’s healthcare system had riled Kushkyan. But the minister could not respond to the allegations in the legislature and decided to settle the scores with the vice-speaker after the session. Speaking in public, Kushkyan called Nikonyan a liar and follower of someone else’s orders and then started using foul street language, which prompted a fight. The brawl ended with the help of MP Nair Zohrabyan.*
