Tajikistan and the World Bank (WB) discussed the development of cooperation at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on June 21.

Zavqi Zavqizoda, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, met with the WB evaluation group, led by Zeljko Bogetic, the ministry said in a message.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues and cooperation prospects in trade, economy and other areas of mutual interest.

In particular, they discussed issues related to the positive assessment of the macroeconomic indicators of Tajikistan, the production of domestic competitive products, the development of exports and import substitution.

The sides also touched upon the issues of cooperation in the investment sphere, as well as in the development of the private sector and the implementation of a number of state programs.

In May 2019, the WB Group Board of Executive Directors approved a new framework strategy for partnership with Tajikistan for the period 2019-2023.

The Country Partnership Strategy for 2019-2023 aims to help Tajikistan take advantage of emerging regional opportunities, transform its economy and improve the livelihoods of its citizens.

The opening of its border with Uzbekistan improved connectivity with China and the increased demand for products from Pakistan and Afghanistan are creating new commercial opportunities for Tajikistan.
