Political consultations between Turkmenistan and Belarus have taken place in Minsk, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Turkmen delegation was led by the Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khadzhiev, and the Belarusian delegation was led by his colleague Evgeny Shestakov.

The parties discussed issues related to expansion of cooperation between the two countries in such areas as trade and economy, agriculture, fuel and energy, science and education.

During the meeting, the specific proposals were considered and the issue of holding the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was raised, the message says.

More than 130 bilateral documents have been signed and are being implemented between the countries, constituting the contractual and legal base of multifaceted cooperation.

In 2017, the volume of bilateral trade in goods and services amounted to $212 million. Belarus mainly supplies high value-added goods to Turkmenistan: trucks, special-purpose vehicles, tractors, road-building equipment, medicinal preparations, woodworking products, and agricultural products.

From 2009 to 2017, about 6,000 tractors of MTZ brand and more than 10,000 trucks of MAZ brand were delivered to Turkmenistan.

A concrete example of the business partnership is the implementation of the project for construction of the mining and processing combine for the production of potash fertilizers in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan. The Belgorkhimprom complex erected by March 2017, worth more than $1 billion, is designed for the production of 1.4 million tons of fertilizers per year.
