Uzbekistan’s state-owned Uzbekenergo and South Korean company KT Corporation have signed an additional agreement on the implementation of the project “Automatic system control and accounting energy” (ASCAE) Podrobno.uz reported.

The signing ceremony was attended by Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Kwon Yong Woo, the management of the South Korean company, representatives of the State Committee for Investments and Uzbekenergo.

The project is being implemented with the financing of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Initially, its implementation was envisaged in Bukhara, Djizak and Samarkand regions. The signed supplementary agreement will create conditions for the implementation of the project throughout the country.

The introduction of ASCAE will lead to a reduction in losses in the supply of electricity and preventing the growth of debt for electricity supplied to consumers.

The Asian Development Bank in 2011 allocated $ 150 million to install 1 million electricity meters in three regions of the country - Bukhara, Jizzakh and Samarkand. The project worth $ 207.4 million was planned to be realized by the end of 2018.

In addition, the Board of Directors of ADB in 2015 approved the granting to the Government of Uzbekistan of an additional loan of $ 300 million for the implementation of ASCAE in Andijan, Fergana, Kashkadarya, Namangan and Surkhandarya regions.

The $ 490 million project involves the purchase and installation of 3.1 million electricity meters.
