Imports exceed exports in Uzbekistan

Imports from Uzbekistan exceeded exports by almost 22 percent in the first half of the year.

The State Committee on Statistics of Uzbekistan reported that the foreign trade turnover of the republic for the reporting period amounted to $17.7 billion, including exports - $7.8 billion, imports - $9.9 billion.

Official statistics recorded a significant share of services in export deliveries. The share of services in total exports was 30.8 percent, ($2.4 billion), including 10.5 percent - transportation services, and 18.4 percent fall on travel services.

The share of energy carriers and petroleum products accounted for 16.4 percent of total exports, food products - 7.5 percent, chemical products and products – 6 percent, ferrous and non-ferrous metals - 5.6 percent, cotton-fiber - 2.1 percent . The share of machinery and equipment for the first half of this year amounted to 1.3 percent of exports.

In the export of horticultural products, the main partners are Kazakhstan (51.9 percent), Russia (15.2 percent), Kyrgyzstan (8.6 percent), Afghanistan (5.5 percent), China (4.1 percent), Vietnam (3.0 percent), Turkey (2.1 percent), Pakistan (1.8 percent) and Iran (1 percent).

In the structure of imports, the major share is accounted for by machinery and equipment - 33.7 percent, chemical products and products from it - 11.5 percent.

Among the CIS countries the main foreign trade partners are Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which account for 28.4 percent of the foreign trade turnover, among others - China, Turkey, the Republic of Korea, Afghanistan, Germany, the U.S., Latvia, Iran, France with a share of 33.8 percent of the total foreign trade turnover of the republic in the first half of the year.
