Iran and Uzbekistan will expand the flight routes between the two countries in the near future.
This was announced by Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi on the sidelines of the meetings with Uzbek officials in the course of his visit to Uzbekistan on May 31, Mehr news agency reported.
Uzbek officials are calling for activating flight routes between Iran and Uzbekistan, which requires more efforts as this area is directly linked to tourism industry and visa issuance, he said.
“We have always witnessed old and deep relations between the two countries of Iran and Uzbekistan because the two nations are well familiar with each other historically,” the minister added.
He also noted that many different issues were discussed and agreements were reached.
“We have also exchanged views to remove barriers in road transit as much as possible to move matters forward,” he stressed.
Air connection for both passenger and freight flights is an important issue for both nations and fortunately Uzbekistan's First Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Rahmatov was firm to develop air transportation between the two countries, he added.
During the talks with chairman of the board of Uzbekiston Temir Yollari JSC Achilbay Ramatov, the parties discussed issues of development of cooperation in various sectors of the economy, in particular, road construction, transport and logistics.
The meeting noted that effective use of new areas of cooperation, launch of the inter-regional transport corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman is especially important.
The amount of trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $325 million in 2017.
