Tajikistan and Kazakhstan discussed a joint project of the roadmap related to the increase in bilateral trade between the states, the press service of the Tajik Ministry of Economic Development reported.

The two Central Asian nations aim to bring bilateral trade to the level of $2 billion. The meeting of Tajik First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavka Zavkizoda and Kazakh Deputy Minister of National Economy Dana Zhunusov was held on the margins of the Economic Forum in Astana.

The parties expressed their satisfaction with the expansion of economic and trade cooperation and discussed a joint project of the roadmap that provides concrete measures to increase trade turnover, create joint industrial enterprises and attract investment in the economy.

In addition, the parties signed the protocol and agreed that the draft of this document will be strengthened on the recommendations of the relevant ministries and departments of both states and will be submitted for ratification to the Co-Chairs of the intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan on the development of economic relations.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, while speaking on the results of the official visit of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Astana, stated that Kazakhstan and Tajikistan intend to increase trade turnover up to $2 billion.

“Tajikistan is an important strategic ally, a partner of Kazakhstan. A high level of mutual relations has been achieved between the countries, a constructive dialogue is underway. Within the framework of the visit, an exchange of views took place on the whole range of issues. Particular attention was paid to trade and economic cooperation. The volume of mutual trade is $80 million and increased by 30 percent over the year. In the conditions of volatility of the world economy this is a very good result,” Nazarbayev said.

The volume of the Tajik-Kazakh trade turnover in the first quarter of this year amounted to $204 million. The main products exported by Kazakhstan to Tajikistan are grain, flour, sunflower oil, construction materials and paints, oil gases and gaseous hydrocarbons, petroleum products. The list of exported products from Tajikistan includes vegetables, fruits, ores and concentrates of lead, zinc, and copper.
