Protesters in Yerevan demand resignation of Prosecutor General of Armenia

About a hundred demonstrators gathered in front of the General Prosecutor's office in Yerevan on May 18 in the morning, demanding the resignation of the body's head Artur Davtyan, TASS reported.

"We demand that the Prosecutor General Davtyan came down to us and answered why for all these years his agency fabricated cases against many innocent people who fought against the former regime. He must resign," said one of the initiators of the picket, a civil activist and human rights activist Vardges Gaspsari.

The supporters of the paramilitary group "Sasna tsrer" ("the Sassoun Braves"), which in July 2016, attacked a police regiment of Yerevan and former General Samvel Babayan also gathered near the building of the Prosecutor's office. Babayan was arrested in 2017 due to suspicion of planning an assassination attempt on ex-President Serzh Sargsyan.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinian said May 17 that he will consider the requirement of resignation of the General Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan.
